Photographer Mike Tinney and designer Alex Hammond realised how important pencils still were nowadays in the creative process. The tiniest sketch at the corner of a page could lead to the most magnificent building. A lot more direct, from the idea to the paper, pencils are used in many different ways by the world’s top designers. The two creatives decided to make portraits of these architects, designers, and all around geniuses by photographing their pens and linking them to their work, in a great book called The Secret Life of the Pencil, available on Laurence King.
