This sixth edition of the Bird Photographer of the Year Competition saw some 22,000 photographs from around the world. The aim: to celebrate the beauty and diversity of birds, and to pay tribute to the quality of modern digital image systems. Several prizes are offered, including the first one which amounts to 5000£. This year, Alejandro Prieto won with his shot “Blocked”. It features a roadrunner on a new section of the border wall between Mexico and the United States. An image that also won the Gold Award in the category “Birds in the Environment”. In the “Young Bird Photographer of the Year” category was Levi Fitze, 17, with his image “Morning Lek”. He won £300 in photo equipment vouchers.
