En 1999 sort la première version du jeu vidéo de skate à l’effigie du skater pro Tony Hawk. Le jeu des développé par Neversoft et édité par Activision et sort dans un premier temps, uniquement sur Playstation. Le jeu a été développé à l’aide d’un petit budget. Ce documentaire intitulé Pretending I’m a Superman revient sur les coulisses de la production du jeu avec des interview des développeurs, du producteur et de Tony Hawk « himself ».
